Big Shadow Lake is located in Willmington, Illinois, around an hour from Chicago. This county is one of the most populous in the state with around 690,000 people living here.

Trek to nearby Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve to see the Blackhawk Waterfall, the only natural waterfall in northeast Illinois. The preserve also has trails, boat/canoe launches into the Fox River, fishing, historic sites, and picnic areas.
